The Bosom Buddies Story
Bosom Buddies Incorporated is a local organisation incorporated in the ACT for women and their families who have been touched by Breast Cancer.
Founded in 1995, it is a non-profit community-based organisation consisting of women who have experienced the uncertainty of breast cancer, either personally or through a loved one.
Why are we here?
The mission of Bosom Buddies is to provide a service for those living with breast cancer and their families.
We do this through:
- Support for those with newly diagnosed breast cancer and assistance on their journey through hospital and home visits from trained volunteers, as well as fellowship and social activities;
- Raising Awareness in the community of breast cancer and advocating on behalf of those with breast cancer to improve treatment;
- The Bosom Buddies Fellowship which funds support programs and other individual and community projects.
What do we Value?
As a group of volunteers, we regard the following characteristics as important:
- Inclusion - we build close friendships and maintain a culture of camaraderie and fellowship that embraces each person who seeks our help;
- Personal Support - we provide support and help through one-to-one approaches that meet the needs of each person;
- Hope - we encourage everyone on the breast cancer journey to 'live a little each day' and present the face of survival to the community;
- Local Base - as a grass roots organisation, we seek to involve our local community and our efforts are for the local community.
