About Bosom Buddies

Bosom Buddies was founded in 1995 by Shirley Fitzgerald and a number of other women who had experienced breast cancer to support a friend who had commenced on her breast cancer journey.  Today we are an organisation of about 300 members and our focus is on the ACT region.

Read more of Our Story.

Our members include women who have experienced breast cancer, as well as friends and family who support them.

Our aims are to...

  • Support those newly diagnosed with breast cancer and assist them on their journey by using a buddy system.
  • Provide social activities for fun and for ongoing sharing and support for members and their guests.
  • Stay in touch through a quarterly newsletter to members.
  • Raise awareness in the community about breast cancer through presentations and through community events initiated by Bosom Buddies.
  • Advocate to improve treatment in our region and to provide a voice in the community for issues related to breast cancer.
  • Raise funds for community programs and projects.

Become a Volunteer

If you want to give back to your community, help other women with breast cancer, or just have fun with a bunch of terrific women, consider volunteering.

Look through the pages on our projects.  You can spend just a little time, or give a lot.  You can raise money, give presentations, be a buddy to new patients, baby-sit for patients in treatment, organise a night at the movies, or help at one of our major dinners like Christmas in July

Email the Bosom Buddies office about your interest and you'll hear from the appropriate member.  Or just come to a social event and let us know you would like to take part.
